Quéribus's castle

This castle is situated in 3 kilometres of the village of Cucugnan, famous for his
priest, who inspired Alphonse Daudet in a short storyof "Letters of my Mill".

At the top of a crest, in a magnificent site, the vestiges of majestic Quéribus's castle raise
such a "thimble settled on a finger".

The surface is almost equal to that one of the town of Carcassonne . A real sentinel, 729 metres high, observing the plain of Roussillon and facing the violent assaults of the wind.

There are only few vestiges of the previous castle which was the last island of the resistance Cathar, overcome in 1255.

To answer the progress of the artillery, the military operation which one sees today was transformed at the end by the XIII-th then in the XVI-th century.

Thousands of guests climb walking cut in the cliff and cross(exceed) three surrounding walls strengthened by the Cliff of the Box tree ("Quéribus's" translation). About twenty walking allows now to reach(affect) the new panoramic terrace of the famous donjon, where one discovers one of the most beautiful points of view of Corbières. Attention eyes !.
