Being located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Corbières and Leucate is a tourist municipality which has got an exceptional landscape. Here in the past, the Greeks stopped to have a stay so the Romans, and seven of the greatest French monarchs built and kept up a fortress which, up to the treaty of Pyrenees, was the last mean of defence in front of the kingdom of Spain.
Its relics of the past still dominate the village, picturesque and genuine, very much involved in its traditional activities such as fishing, vine growing also and the shellfish farming.
From this headland you discover Leucate, looking like a real tongue which would be made of sand, the waves coming in their end on it, and this on 15 kilometres towards Spain, you'll see also the pond of 6000 ha and the cliff overhanging the sea.
And then, on 1000 ha, the plateau, a real sanctuary of fauna and flowers which, with the crop rotation, forests , capitelles, vineyards, fallow lands and guarrigues, interlaced in walls of dry stones and lined with peach trees, vineyards and flowered almond trees, all this a splendid landscape. A landscape you really should absolutely discover, alone or with your family, by foot or on a mountain-bike.
