We are going to tell you the legend of Lady Carcas, who was a Moslem princess and wife of king Balaak :
King Charlemagne besieged the city since already five years when Lady Carcas had the idea to collect all the rest of the corn which the besieged population still had and this with the purpose to force-feed the last pig staying in the city.
She orders to throw the pig over the ramparts. When the animal, swollen with the corn in its body, touched the ground after its fall, spread the corn everywhere.
King Charlemagne, filled with consternation by such a wasting, falls into the trap and thinks that the seat has lasted enough and decides to raise the siege.
Lady Carcas rings then the bells of the church to negotiate.
The besieged population shouted then to King Charlemagne : "Carcas sounds you". The besieging repeated : "Carcas rings, this word in English is translated in the French language by "sonne"".
So, this seems to be the origin of the name of "Carcassonne
".
