Built at the end of the first century after JC, the amphitheatre of the city Nimes
was among the biggest ones in Roman Gaul.
It measures about 133 m of length and 101 m of wide. The facade, high of 21 m, consists of 2 levels of 60 arches each.

Inside, more than 20 000 spectators could attend the fights of the gladiators and the hunting.
A complicated system of corridors and stairs allowed to each of the spectators to quickly reach their place or to leave the building at the end of the performances.
Today, the amphitheatre of Nîmes is one of the best well preserved of the Roman world. To the deed of valour of the Roman builders adds the one of the nowadays architects and the mastery of the contemporary science of heat.
Every winter indeed a completely installation that can be dismantled allows to create inside the antique monument a theatre from 6000 to 7000 spectators.
The connecting (at the end of October / beginning November) and the dismantling (around Easter) last about twenty days. During these periods, there are particular conditions of visits.
