The Roman surrounding wall(speaker): These vestiges belong to one of the vastest surrounding walls(speakers) of the long pole steelyard offered by the emperor Auguste to the colony Roman.
Of a perimeter of 6 km, she(it) contains a space of 220 hectares which is not complétement urbanized. High of 9 m, wide of more than 2 m, the surrounding wall(speaker) nîmoise counted a dozen doors and about 80 tours(towers). The door Auguste and the Door of France are the only still visible doors of the surrounding wall(speaker) Augustéenne, dating 16-15 avenue. J.C.
The Tower Hurries: She(it) was the highest of the tours(towers) of this surrounding wall(speaker). Of octagonal shape, she(it) consisted at the origin of 3 levels over a base. Every level is in retreat one to another. Today, the last floor disappeared and she(it) amounts to a height about 32 m. One can see the foundations of the others

The Door Auguste: The Door Auguste or Door of Arles is one of the main gates of antique city, where passed the Via Domitia coming of Beaucaire
. She(it) crossed Nimes
to continue towards Spain.
The Door Auguste consists of two central arches, intended for the passages of vehicles, framed(supervised) by two smaller arches for the pedestrians today. Originally, the strengthened door was flanked(thrown) by 2 tours(towers). A tiled floor in the ground indicates their places. The Door is decorated with Corinthian pilasters, with niches and with extension bulls. A registration, still partially visible, indicates that the emperor Auguste, the son of divine Caesar, gave doors and walls to the colony when he was a consul for the eleventh time and a tribune for the eighth time.
