The village of Goudargues snuggled up under the plane trees of his place and his classes(courses), offers the peaceful peace of his alleys, the coolness of his fountain lined with rails. After a Roman presence, the monks of Aniane based in the year 800 one abbey Benedictine around Gordanicus's pond fed by these sources.

They mirror in value the soil by draining and by channelling waters of the pond. It is around this abbey that was born Goudargues. In the Revolution the church of Prieuré was seriously damaged. The facade of the current church, built on the cemetery adjacent to the initial church was restored in 1840. The history of Goudargues always revolved around his(her) church and around his(her) abbey object of religious quarrels which ended only in the 18th century.
