Notre Dame de Londres

The name of "Londres" comes from the Celtic word "Loundres" which means swamps. The name of the British capital "London" has got the same origin.

The Château de Londres is a fortress built in the twelfth century. The central part, which had been destroyed, was rebuilt in 1595 in a Renaissance style by Fureland de Roquefeuil, gentleman of King Henry IV. This man asked also monumental fireplaces to be built, also mullioned windows, the French ceiling all painted and decorated.

In this village there is also a church composed of two naves from different times joined each other with two big archways. The apse is dated from the eleventh century.

Near the village there is the Ravine des Arcs (a ravine) : a very narrow and sinuous spectacular canyon between walls which reach 150 to 200 metres high.
