Castries is the cradle of the chase of the region which is even called "Royal" , name given when the opportunity presented itself during a chase organized in honour of queen Marie - Amelie of Portugal in 1923.
Castries remains a typical village which is very alive. In the bend of his sloping streets waits for you ancient village, with its old houses built on magnificent vaulted cellars. Making a halt near the city hall is necessary to look at the last remnants of the ancient oil mill, the pride in the heart of the inhabitants of the city of Castries. Showed to its advantage in 1991, the rests of this monument became one of the symbols of the secret soul of this village.
The end of the visit can not be done without a bend to the church of the nineteenth century, the bridge of Cadoule, the deposits of quarries, but also the aqueduct built by Pierre-Paul Riquet, the Romanic bridge Tourilles, or still the Capelette...
So many splendours and monuments are really worthy to be seen, that's why the inhabitants of this city would like that the tourists come to their place to admire the whole. One single regret for the moment, the castle can't be visited anymore, but all people do hope it won't be irreversible...
Su much dreams buried beyond the reality, in the deeply lines of old houses, that one sees while strolling in the streets of the city... Surely, in the country of the olive, nothing can prevent the sunset to print fantastic impressions on the side of these hills, where there is a determinedly village turned to the future.
