Its harbour was set up in 1666 of which the unveiling gave the opportunity to the first tournament of nautical jousts, the tradition goes on still nowadays. Built on a real island bound to the earth with two strips of sand, Sète was given the nickname of "Venice in Languedoc".
The Mont Saint-Clair (180 metres high) which proudly dominates the city, shows a wonderful panorama allowing to discover the city in all details. The charm of its canals with its twelve promenade decks among which five of them are articulated, are pleasant places to stroll.
