The port has several purposes (fishing port, industrial port and marina), which confers on the port called Sète such a particular atmosphere.
It is the ideal place to savour the shells of the pond of Thau and sample, in a lot of restaurants of the city, their typical ready-cooked dishes, fishes and shellfishes (about 150 varieties fished here by numerous trawler men.
The port of Sète is the first fishing port of the Mediterranean Sea. The city named Sète is also a city of art, it is the birthplace of numerous artists, among them the famous poet and singer Georges Brassens, Paul Valéry also famous poet.

It is the birthplace of Jean Vilar man of theatre, of Agnès Varda director, and the brothers Di Rosa, painters and sculptors. The passionate persons of the bath-towel and of volleyball (national sport of the city) will not be disappointed by its very beautiful beach of white sand which extends on about 15 kilometres in the direction to Marseillan
