Some scattered tracks prove the presence of population in the prehistoric time, with a beneficial geographic situation for the settlement.

The period Roman is represented well ; it is the 6th century which one finds

the origin of the name Murviel, consisted of "muri": walls and of "vetuli": old man, the "muri vetuli" plural : the old walls. Romans set up there a "castrum".

At the time of the feudalism, this military power contributed to the évolutionéconomique of the soil and to the importance of the seignerie in place. The current village is Medieval.

The big construction of circular shape surrounded with ramparts, remained until XIX-th century avoiding so the conflicts, épidemies and plunders.

This particular architectural set(group) overhangs the Valley of Orb and Vernazobre offering an exceptional panorama.

Peculiarity :
"Les Petetas" dolls of rags and straw, life-size, restarted through all the village of the end of the harvests at the beginning of the grape harvests (from July 14 till August 15), them rappelent to the guests the life in the village and the professions by the beginning of the century.
