Their old fort having been dismantled following the religious wars, the Lords de Peyre who reigned over the biggest part(party) of the North Gévaudan decide to transfer the seat of the baronnie in Baume. In 1630, Antoine de Grolée made build on this site a house which has nothing more of a fortress but éapis walls of granite of the country of which confer him(her) another very defensive character. At the end of XVII-th s, his(her) son, César de Grolée, count of Peyre, general lieutenant of king Louis XIV for Languedoc, makes decorate the castle by the local artisans.
