Built on a rocky hook dominating the class(course) of the Lot, Chanac is, from the Roman time, a strategic site, commanding(ordering) the valley.

At the beginning of the XIII-th century, kings of Aragon made strengthen the site and build a strong castle.

This castle served as summer place of residence to the bishops of Mende , counts of the Gévaudan, so the place seemed to them pleasant. It(he) was burned in 1793 during the French Revolution, it remains there only the donjon.

Please, walk in the village, you will discover it the Romanic church (high altar of the XVII-th century, classified Ancient memorial saved from the destruction of the castle), vestiges of ramparts, beautiful houses in the sculptured doors.

For you to accommodate, several solutions offer themselves to you : 3 hotels - restaurants, guest houses, campsite, vacation village, rural shelters.

The amateurs of sports of open air will be served: they can practise the drive(ride)

to visit in the surroundings : dolmens on Sauveterre's limestone plateau, big limestone plateaus and their typical architecture in limestone, Fill with the Tarn, the national park of Cevennes, the Mountains of Aubrac and Margeride.
