Vauban, the famous Chief superintendent of the fortifications of King Louis XIV lived several years in Villefranche-de-Conflent to achieve the works of the fortified town. He decided to build the fortified town on the heights in order to protect the city and keep an eye of the three valleys.

There are two possibilities for you to visit it :

Sight over the fortified

- For the most sporty and not claustrophobic one's, an underground passage with 734 steps, built in the nineteenth century, which connects the fortified town to the town at the level of the small fort. This takes about half an hour to do it.
- Second possibility, much less tiring, is to shuttle at the departure of the city and see the same.

At your arrival at the top, you can will have a splendid view : a magnificent panorama on the Canigou and the surrounding valleys. A delight for your eyes !...
