In the middle of the plain of Cerdagne nine kilometres over the Mountain-Louis
is located the famous health and sports resort (built in 1920) called Font-Romeu.
The name results from the Gallicising of the Catalan name "Fount-Romeu", which means "Pilgrim's fountain".
According to the legend, a bull would have found Notre-Dame de Font-Romeu near a fountain. Because of the mooing and scratching of the bull, the intrigued cowherd decided to inspect the place and discovers in a cavity a statue of the Blessed Virgin.
This village is well-known for its sports installations, the quality of its pure air, the periods of sunshine and the beauty of its landscapes.
