Being considered as one of the most beautiful villages in France, it was built in "soulane", that is to say on the sunny hillside of the mountain.
The structure of the village is in successive half-circles, going from the top of a massive church with a square tower, then houses rise in tiers along the hillside, built exclusively on a rock in grey granite. the few ground that can have been worked is reserved to the culture of vineyards and peach trees.

These houses have the peculiarity to have several levels and are made in such a way that the superior windows can't be masked by other constructions, allowing in this way to have a sight on the valley of Conflent and especially on the Massif often covered with snow which is called the Canigou.
The "sight" of each human was in that time the principle of town planning. The village called Eus is 4 km away from Marquixanes
by crossing the little river named Têt.
