Ancient(former) fortified town was built under Louis XIV by Vauban, from 1679 till 1681, in the crossroads of the valleys of Segre, the Aude, and the Têt.
She(it) played a big role in the treaty of Pyrenees the French Revolution.
Of the tray(plateau) on which she(it) is built, the sight extends over all the chain(channel) of Pyrenees, going from the Canigou in the Sierra Del Cadi. Ramparts, bastions half-moons and talutées curtains (characteristics of Vauban's architecture), were planted by trees of

any essences, form a magnificent shaded, well exposed(explained) walk, where one can make(do) a cure of air(sight) and rest in front of a magnificent panorama.
The church dating 1736, is built by the Military engineering on the model of the chapel of the Citadel.
The Well of the Convict, situated in the citadel, served for feeding with water defenders in case of seat. Remarkable realization of the 18th century, wooden and in excellent state of conservation.
