Celtic establishment of the Counts of Foix , Mirepoix was put back(handed) to Levis Mirepoix after the crusade of Albigeois.


Devastée by a flood in 1279, she(it) was reconstructed on a plan of bastide and possesses an exceptional patrimony :


- "Couverts" of the 13th and 14th century,
- Houses with half-timberings,
- House of the Consul, in hundred sculptured heads.




The Gothic cathedral of 15th and 16th centuries, with its "Toulousian" bell tower and its magnificent vaults, is situated in the second row(rank) of Europe for the width of the nef.


Thanks to the power of Levis and seat of a Bishop's palace, Mirepoix became an important shopping center, and a big centre of culture of the pastel.


In summer, fesitvals, concerts, markets, fairs, exhibitions and historic parades.
