Built in 1252 by Alphonse of Poitiers, who was the brother of King Saint Louis (Louis IX), Villefranche-de-Rouergue is located in the confluence of two rivers : the Alzou and Aveyron.
It quickly becomes an important place of trades and will remain it in spite of the big fire in 1497 which destroys a big par of the city, without forgetting the great epidemic of plague in 1628.
