Carbonne

The most ancient document mentioning Carbonne's name dates 1145. He tells the donation of lands made(done) for Bonnefont's abbey by the baron of Tersac.

On these lands cultivated by the monks, a village builds up itself outside of the peninsula, in the buckle of the meander defender of the Garonne.

In 1244, the troops of Simon de Montfort ruin the rising village. It(he) resumes life only in 1256, when is constructed the first Bastide. Of its church dedicated to Saint Laurent, subsite still the bell tower cog and the tower on which it leans.

In 1356, after the disasters of the war of 100 years and the passage of Prince Noir, there is nothing of the city. The monks of Bonnefont, abandoning the former(ancient) place, build more in the North, in the current space " esplanade/court", a bastide short story(piece of news) protected by ramparts.

These ramparts lose their role of defence in 1780 following the construction of the stony bridge which obliges to demolish the doors of it.

Today, Carbonne became an important city of 4 000 inhabitants. Door was opened on Volvestre, communications : railway, bus, a highway towards Toulouse and Pyrenean ski resorts, Toulouse-Blagnac's airport in 30 minutes make(do) of Carbonne, a dynamic, welcoming town where life is enjoyable.
