In its history of the Surgery, written Richerand "the French surgery was born in the XVI-th century of the works of two men of genius Ambroise Paré and Pierre Franco".
And yes, the small village of Turriers lives to be born a personality who practiced as official surgeon in Bern then in Lausanne. Pierre Franco was born there around 1501 and a local tradition wants that it is a hamlet of Gières.
Franco the hair began probably very young to make(do) and to annoy his(her) fellow countrymen.

It(he) made(did) certainly its(his) first surgical studies on the pig. After some trainings in Provence and in Dauphiné, it(he) occupied surgeon's official post of Bern, then in Lausanne where it(he) began the publication of works.
"Its general institution, its skill of hand, the impudence of its surgical conceptions make(do) of him one of the founders of the modern surgery".
He died towards 1578, maybe in Turriers, by virtue of the low - alpine proverb : "The lebre mouere tuju in the jas".
