Towards the prehistory and Archaeologists, Mane in Latin Mana or Manua, is a site marked out by vestiges of aqueducts and churchyards. Besides, most of the toponymistes consider that the village pulled(fired) its name of that of the Roman goddess Mana Genita, who presided over the burial.

Today the first summary image presented by Mane to the traveler who approaches him(it) is that of a shaded hook from which get loose two silhouettes :

that of a to limp, 31 metres high and that of a Medieval citadel (12th century), unique(only) intact mentally retarded feudal fortification in High Provence.
