Château Arnoux Saint Auban
Translated by software

Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban is situated on the right bank of the Durance upstream to his(her) confluence with Bléone.

In Moyen-Age, the original medieval environment occupied Villevieille's site hung on(collided) on Saint Jean's hillside. It is only from the XV-th and XVI-th centuries which the "old current village" began to develop around the new castle.

Closer of us, the history of Château-Arnoux in the XX-th century seems quite whole marked by the development of the industrial complex of Saint-Auban ( Elf-Atochem).

The castle

Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban establishes(constitutes) henceforth the fourth city of the department with 5 000 inhabitants. Thanks to the first world war, Average Durance knew an unexpected turnover : in 1915, a factory of chemicals was created on the territory of Château-Arnoux, at feet of the tray(plateau) of Saint-Auban. It is on this tray(plateau) that extends today the town of Saint-Auban ; avenues and rectilinear streets almost carry(wear) all of personalities' names of the chemical domain.

On Sundays mornings, you can assiter in big and traditional walked(worked) Provençal sound. In Saint-Auban is also implanted a meteorological centre, an aerodrome and a high-level centre for the gliding. For any information, please , contact the Office of Tourism.
