Administrative centre of the canton, Guillestre was always a stopping-off place, because of his particular geographic situation : in the entrance(entry) of the Queyras, at feet of the Collar of the Var
, overhanging the valley of Durance.
This position made(did) the wealth of Guillestre with its numerous fairs, but it was also the source of numerous attacks, at the rate of the French - Italian wars and Religious wars.
So, this tempestuous past, knew how to endow Guillestre of a historic patrimony of exception:

- Eygliers's tower of 1392, without forgetting the old houses and the narrow streets, symbols of the historic evolution of Guillestre.
Today, the municipality counts 2 200 inhabitants and knew how to adapt itself to all the socioeconomic requirements, what makes(does) of her(it) a particularly animated(stimulated) village, living at the rate of the seasons.
