Built on a rocky pedestal in 760 m of height, Gourdon dominates the Valley of the Wolf. The incomparable panorama spreads out on 80 km of Côte d'Azur, from Théoule to Nice
. In 10 km only as the crow flies of the méditerranée, Gourdon undergoes the influence of this one, his(her) climate is sweet and moderate, in spite of the height of the surrounding mountains.
One reaches it either by the road of Gorges(breasts) of the Wolf where the fraiche greenery gets involved in the abrupt(steep) cliffs, or by the road of the Meadow of the Lake which after the dry tray(plateau) of Sarrée, crosses an immense wood of oak, where from one discovers a very impressive sight of the village.
The origin of Gourdon goes back up(raises) to the highest antiquity. By its geographic position, the village often served as fortified town. Numerous vestiges testify of it : Oppidums, roads, Roman camps, and the fortress which dominates by a peak of 300 m the valley of the Wolf.
On the West of the conglomeration, the castle
dating the IX-th century, the property of the Counts of Provence until 1235, maybe visited.
In spite of the Saracen invasions and the wars which stained with blood Noon, Gourdon crossed the tests of time and stays one of the places the most appreciated by Côte d'Azur.
Very numerous walks near the village and near its hamlet. The hunting and the peach(fishing) to the trout have the favour of numerous amateurs.
The local craft is very developed there : glass factory(glass-making) of art, painting on silk, perfume shop, soaps, honey, nougat, gingerbread...
In the point of view culture : orange trees, lavender and many others. There are five restaurants in the municipality and the hotel in border of the wolf.
