Peyras's battery was built in 1879, in a time marked by French-English and French - Italian tensions in the Mediterranean Sea.
Situated on the Massive of the Cap Sicié, she(it) had for mission to beat the space included between the isthmus of Sablettes and the high tide in the neighborhood of the cliffs of both Brothers.
The fires crossed those of his(her) left sister, Saint-Elme's battery. It is a "battery of bombardment" of big calibre. The height of about 200 m allowed him(her) indeed to subject enemy vessels to a plunging shot, increasing so is efficiency.
After the liberation, the Navy transformed the site into D.C.A's school by installing(settling) it the four German artillery of 105 mn which are even there today.
The battery stops being operational on June 1-st, 1657. The strong is disarmed(moved) in 1965.
Today Peyras remains Flak's only German battery still in state in Europe (while all the wall of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea was sold to the feraille).
She(it) is always occupied by the Navy which began to restore her(it) since 1997.
