Created by the painter Dany Lartigue, son(thread) of the famous photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue and small son of André Messager (Academician and Director of the Opera of Paris), the collection is presented in their ancient(former) house of family which the city of Saint-Tropez
purchased.
In this frame typically tropézien, one discovers fabulous one selection of all the diurnal sorts of the butterfly of France, harvested by Dany Lartigue during several decades.
About 20 000 specimens are gathered(reunited): some in process of extinction, today protected; little known variety show(varieties); or still extremely rare aberrations, as the Apollon Noir du Mercantour.
If adds to it an extremely important legacy of exotic specimens (Amazonie, Islands Salomon...) " the most beautiful butterflies to the world ".
Entomologists of the whole world showed their enthusiasm for the House of the Butterflies, which sees increasing year by year its company(frequence) by the general public.
The collection grew rich in 1998 by the other gifts(donations) of extremely rare specimens and by the discovery in Cotignac ( Var) of a sort until then unknown.
