Being seen by the village

The old village extends over a lengthened(stretched out) spur, in shape of vessel, as already noted it Nostradamus, with his(her) bow and his(her) stern.

Ménerbes (1 120 inhabitants, height of 230 m), whose name calls back(reminds) that of Minerva, the Roman goddess in the golden helmet, was lived from paleolithic superior (shelter Soubeyras), and the calcolithique (dolmen of Pichouno, unique(only) in Vaucluse).

A the Roman time, several districts situated at the foot of the village were strewed with "villae" numerous vestiges of which one found.

Before the invasions of Ve century, the hermit Beaver based its Mananca's convent, and one can see, nowadays even, the cave at feet of the Luberon. In Moyen-Age, the access of the town, stuffed with underground passages, was made by both doors Saint rescuer and Our Lady, which represent in the form of two golden keys in the coats of arms of Ménerbes, quoted from the Comtat Venaissin.

On the West, one has a magnificent panoramic sight on the Luberon and Mountains of Vaucluse, epuis the former(ancient) cemetery, close to the church of the XIV-th century, richly décolrée (primitive, rétable). The former(ancient) Orphanage and the Bell tower, with its bell tower cheer up the placette girl of the city hall.

to discover to Ménerbes :
- Church, opened Sunday in season,
- Clovis Hugues's monument
- Abbey Saint-Hilaire,
- Dolmen of Pitchoune, below the village, on Bonnieux's road,
- Museum of the Corkscrew (33 (0)4.90.72.41.58).
