Oppède has the peculiarity to consist of two villages which succeeded one another as administrative centre in the course of times : Oppède-le-Vieux and in the plain, Poulivets's hamlet. During 20th century, while Oppède-le-Vieux ruins himself, Poulivets, the new village builds itself in the center of the valley.
Today the vineyard dominates the agricultural landscape, accompanied with some cereal, the truck farming and orchards. The economic activity of Oppède, it is also the exploitation of the stony careers of international fame, as well as the companies, the artisans, businesses of nearness and establishment bound(connected) to the tourism.
Rare are the witnesses of the distant past. Some tracks of the Roman activity(occupation) are visible on the area of the municipality. If certain vestiges go back up(raise) to Moyen-Age, the major part of Oppède's patrimony was built in the plain from the 16th century. The oratory Saint Joseph and four laundries were the object of a restoration, the municipality being very attentive to the protection of the public patrimony.
