During the journey, Hugo spelt : "We leave hardly Sallanches, and already I try to disentangle(solve), on étincelantes crests the old Alps, tracks that both big invaders of Italy did not leave with it".
It is that indeed, it is difficult not to try(feel) a profound emotion when, on a beautiful morning of August, one sees taking place in front of one this immense amphitheatre(lecture hall) of mountains, quite different of colour, shape, high and of height, enormous, alternately sensational and dark, green and white, different and vague masses, with which an enormous still oblique sunbeam floods every interval, and above of which, as the stone of the oath in a druidic circle, a Mont Blanc rises royally with its tiara of ice(mirror) and its coat of snow".
Farther, speaking about the Valley of Arve and plain of about Sallanches, Hugo writes : "... Its white houses and its polished bell tower as the tin, on foot of a green high mountain crowned by wide pieces of cliff".
