The origin of the name of this municipality remains still vague, is it would be about a Malagasy word of origin "The place which one discovers by far". Let be the origin of this name is due to the fact that the sailors, at the beginning of the colonization, came to look for some wood to make their oars, their "Avirons".
Tévelave sheltered during numerous years the runaway slaves, many found refuge in caves. The populating of the municipality began in 1719, the colonists, having obtained the concessions by the East India Company in Gol, settled down in the sector of the Furrows Sandbank. You can practise water sports, the equitation and the good on the drive(ride).
