"The construction site of the century" gave birth to the port, the big works endowed the island of a rail and dug ponds in the Pointe des Galets.
In the 70s, the digging of a new port(bearing) in La Possession
and the creation of industrial parks gave a development important for this city.
The road of the ledge was opened in 1963 and widened in 1976. Before the construction, one joined Saint-Denis
or in rowboat, but the currents and the storms made the precarious navigation, or by the mountain road (34 km), opened in 1829 ; this last offer of magnificent points of view.
