Fresh(cool) and decorated with flowers city which owes its name to a term of navy(marine), les Tampons served for sealing the hull(shell) of vessels. Nevertheless, the Tampon, has no rather agricultural but maritime activity. The region was covered with forests and served as refuge to the runaway slaves, those even which(who) will give the name in Plaine-des-Cafres.
It is at the beginning of the 18th century which the colonists began to settle down in the region, nevertheless it will be necessary to wait for 1830 so that the Tampon develops. Indeed, the rich Count de Kervéguen, avoiding(fleeing) the French Revolution, comes to settle down in the he Tampon and buys numerous lands where this one grew of the stick.
In some years, a good part(party) of the South of the island belongs to its family, but after the monetary reform in 1879, "Kervéguen" is ruined.
Another culture is going to upset the agricultural landscape of the Tampon, it is about the Geranium. From 1900 till 1920, all the forest is shaved and leaves place with gerania. In 1924, Reunion was the only world producer of essential oil.
